The foundry now has new hard-working employees

A beehive has recently been erected on the premises of the Lößnitz foundry. This supports the beefuture project and the foundry thus makes an important contribution to the ecological balance in the region. The first honey can be harvested in late summer.

"Since April there has been a lot going on on our meadows", says the manager of the Lößnitz foundry Max Jankowsky "because our bees are tirelessly collecting pollen and nectar and make sure that our delicious honey comes from the flower into the jar". "Our most hard-working specialists," adds the engineer with a smile.

Max Jankowsky became aware of the "Beefuture" project through the network "Senate of the Economy", which is committed to the public welfare goals of sustainability in the sense of the eco-social market economy. The founder of "Beefuture", Frank Weiß (49),is committed to the fight against the worldwide bee mortality. Since 2015, Frank Weiß has been engaged in sustainable nature and environmental protection in the entire German-speaking region. The beefuture GmbH specialises in providing both companies and private individuals with bee colonies and taking over their care. Jankowsky has seized this opportunity, which enables the company to make a sustainable contribution to biodiversity!

"As a responsible company, the Lößnitz foundry also wants to make a contribution to the protection of the environment and nature," says Jankowsky. "Our main concern in this project is biodiversity and the protection of the bee in particular."

Since April, a busy bee colony has thus found a place on the company premises. This also benefits the employees. In late summer, probably at the end of August or the beginning of September - they also receive some of the bottled honey, the so-called "Lunkergold" (blowholes are missing parts in the casting). By summer, about 30,000 bees are expected and with the first annual harvest, up to 20 kilos can be expected. This will be honoured accordingly with a small honey festival.

The beefuture GmbH takes care of everything necessary. Every two weeks a professional beekeeper checks and looks after the colony.

"We take over the care and support of the peoples", says the beefuture managing director. "However, we intervene as little as possible in the life inside the hives, because we value natural processes - this protects the bees and allows a particularly high quality honey to be produced as a by-product".

"It is an incomparable partnership for us, which enables us to become active in nature conservation even without know-how," emphasizes Jankowsky. "Because together we are strong to tackle the progressive death of the bee," Jankowsky is convinced.

Max Jankowsky already has other ideas for the future. So it will soon be possible to produce a live transmission to the beehive with the help of a webcam.
So everyone can enjoy the diligent work of the bees!
